2 Years a ago at a previous employer, Charlie of Ely Glass & Glazing was tasked with fitting glass to one of the biggest ever jobs of his career, a project featured on the BBC, as well local and national news, not to mention every christian media outlet across the world.
The Ark Project was focussed around a monumental new build, an Ark in Isleham, a historic town in Cambridgeshire and home to a church that was formed in 1812. A stones throw from Thetford and Newmarket, and about 45 minutes from Norwich, Isleham is a quaint fen town, and soon to be the location for one of the biggest and most visually amazing Christian Church hubs in the UK.
As you can see from the images above, this was a mammoth project, and glazing companies from across the UK had been competing to win their part of the contract, which involved fitting 1,100 double glazed units. Charlie was proud to be one of the glaziers supporting on the job, and 1,100 double glazed units into solid oak frames, and 21,000 brass screws later it was finished, and he was astonished with the final product.
Following the build which took months, and an incredible amount of work, Charlie Chitty the now proprietor of Ely Glass & Glazing said ‘It was hard work, especially putting the first of over 1,000 windows in and knowing what was to come, never mind the brass screws. It’s awesome though, it’s such an amazing building, I think everyone should come and see it christian or not, and enjoy the work of art. I’m just pleased we could be involved, and do our bit for such a historic new build”.
